When you make use of the download function, a .zip file is downloaded to your desktop. In the .zip file you will find in most cases a Revit file (.rfa) and a text file (.txt).

To define the different types the familie uses a Type Catalog. This allows you to only load the desired types of a particular product in your project, resulting in a smaller project size.

In the Revit Family no Types are defined besides 'TYPE CATALOG' to indicate that you need a Type Catalog.

Note: However, this does mean that the family should not be loaded via drag and drop, given the type catalog is then ignored.

The following steps can be followed in order to load types of families into your project using a type catalog:

  • The families can be loaded into the project via Insert ► Load Family.
  • When browsing in the right location, the desired family can be chosen.
  • The desired types within the selected family can be chosen when you click "Open". At this stage you can make use of filters
  • The selected types will be loaded into the project when clicking OK . These can now be selected using the appropriate category.
